Jutes is back again after the popular success of his last album, ‘Dilworth’. His latest record, ‘Chin Up, Beautiful’, is finally here!
The talented singer, who merges alternative rock with hip-hop and modern metal, is back with an amazing statement of an album, showcasing all the emotion of vulnerability, devotion, growth and such raw talent, which immediately, just from the first track, ‘Icarus’, screams Jutes all over.
‘Chin Up, Beautiful’ explores self-worth, healing, vulnerability and heartbreak, which is very on-brand for Jutes. The singer has a beautiful, melodic voice, with some hardcore verse spitting on tracks such as ‘Disassociate’, which is showcased as the fourth song on the album. The combination of a cheeky breakdown into spitting some bars, in my opinion, is very unique for the new age of alt-rock/hip-hop!
A lot of tracks have that serious, heavy bass in the background, which, accompanied by those hard-hitting drums and those heavenly vocals, really makes this record so much more enjoyable to listen to, even if the lyrics are quite intense and carry that raw emotion, such as ‘White Butterflies’ and ‘Pitiful’. The new album really is a perfect example of finding your way through the hardest moments and being able to, as a listener, appreciate the beauty of it, almost relating to some of the struggles he brings to the music. It’s very human.
Some of my personal favourite tracks are ‘Disassociate’, ‘Mannequin’ and ‘Cry Wolf’. ‘Disassociate’ in particular, really stood out to me the first time I heard it because of that crazy breakdown midway through, which quickly changes into the rap element of the verse. I think it’s truly incredible! ‘Mannequin’ and ‘Cry Wolf’ are both so very heart-wrenching, they both have a similar vibe with the beat in the background of each song but also so different at the same time.
I personally think that Jutes clearly has a one-of-a-kind sound, and this album really does exhibit his talent and how versatile his music can be. In an era where a lot of music is quite performative, he really outshines a lot of artists with that unique sound, and you can really see how much of a process goes into such an awesome record. If you’re a fan of an emotional, distinctive, heavy but urban sound, this album is definitely one for the books.
My final thoughts are that Jutes is definitely at his peak with ‘Chin Up, Beautiful’, and I’m yet to hear an artist that can match alternative styles, a rap breakdown, and some seriously authentic lyrics and emotion. This man is absolutely killing the game. Clearly, a lot of perfection has gone into this album. It’s by far my favourite of his and I’m excited to see what’s next for Jutes.
