Motionless In White are dropping their latest album, Decades on the 17th of July and I have been lucky enough to have been given a sneak peak at the album. So join me as we go over what you can expect to hear in the coming days!
This album contains fourteen songs, all showing off that gorgeous range we’ve grown to expect from MIW. Let’s dive in.
Decades
Hold onto your hats as we start with the title track, as MIW immediately get up and in your face with incredible energy. This song really is here to let you know MIW are still here(is that a reference?) and aren’t going anywhere any time soon. An incredibly on form title track from Motionless here.
Log_in/crash_out
This song really hit me with its electronic influences from the get go. Leading synth first into a gorgeous melody that left me wanting more, but Motionless in White are known to deliver. Chris Motionless’s singing always blows me away.
R.I.P. (feat. Skylar Gray)
Skylar’s voice is leant to this song in such a way that makes her sound as though she has always been there. The contrast between hers and Chris’s voices really made this one stand out to me. Possibly my personal favourite on the entire album. This one is really worth investing your time into. I know it will be going platinum in my shower.
Fight Like Hell
And just like that we are thrown straight back in to that classic MIW edge. The energy picks straight back up. You’ll have to fight like hell to keep this one out of your head.
Playing God (Feat. Corey Taylor)
Any song starting with a breakdown from Corey Taylor is bound to really show its stuff. But hearing this song on the album as opposed to a single may be the way to go in my opinion. Incredibly strong by itself, Playing God really gives the album that extra punch having such a giant of the metal scene lend his vocals to this gorgeous track. The contrast between them really will bring your rage out. if you can’t wait another moment for this album, check out the lyric video to Playing God now!
All That I’ve Ever Known
A really instrumental opening here was very welcome. Motionless In White definitely know how to keep fans guessing, every song so far has hit entirely different spots. MIW have so much synergy as artists and that’s all we will ever need to know. Get ready for a big electronic breakdown toward the end that really scratches that itch in your brain.
Blood Rave (Feat. Anthony Martinez)
An incredible intro that I can only describe as horrific leads you so elegantly through this song. The electronic influences used in the verses of this song will leave Blood Rave stuck in your head for hours. Throughout it feels like a song you could really get up and dance to. To have found room in this song for a breakdown is nothing short of masterful.
Love At First Bite
For all you vampires out there, are you a sucker for a good bite? The samples of an organ in the background really added a Nosferatu vibe for me that really added to this song’s themes. This might be a big favourite in the making, MIW really turn their gothic influences all the way up here.
Count Back From Zero
This track really made me feel nostalgic to MIW’s songs I listened to as a teenager. Specifically this song reminded me of Dark Passenger in its opening, but really showed it wasn’t just a boring repeat to pander to old fans. This track really showed me where Motionless In White have grown from ten years ago.
Blood Pact
This track hits you with an immediate sense of danger from its intro, followed by a gorgeous breakdown. Blood Pact really shows off both Motionless In White’s beauty and edge in one incredible package, really pushing out a combination that shows MIW are here for the long haul.
Afraid of The Dark
Afraid of The Dark really reflected its title for me, such beautiful peace broken in places by intense heavy guitar and screaming led me feeling very close to the imagery this song creates. It reminded me of sudden, irrational fears I had as a child, then replaces those thoughts in its own progression by then flipping the script into talking about growth, as seen in the lyric “I was rebuilt by what broke me”. To summarise this song in one word; wow.
Sunglasses At Night
Sunglasses At Night hit me quite intensely with party or raving vibes, really had to hold back the urges to dance here, what a great catchy beat this song hands you. Alongside the ‘creature of the night blending in’ vibes Chris Motionless sings about leads to a song that could end up iconic for the band.
Hollywood (Bonus Track)
Hollywood’s beauty really lied in its lyricism for me, as it painted such vivid images of being a big fish in a small pond. It’s message to stay humble really resonates, leaving quite a positive mindset as this song ends.
Fight Like Hell (Bonus Track)
I was almost sad to see the end of this album, but all good things must end. And what a send off Fight Like Hell gives. This bonus track really hits that sweet spot for head banging, bopping around and maybe even a little moshing. This last track left me energised, as though I hadn’t already been through a range of emotions. Incredible.
If I were to describe this album in one word, it would be “Woah”. Decades really takes you on a journey from start to finish, keep your ears and eyes peeled for this album, because it deserves all of the praise I’ve given it and more.
